I work at a nonprofit youth development organization that uses performance as a tool to build community. I've been working here for nine years and am passionate about the work we do to engage poverty in new ways. I also volunteer where I work as a house manager of youth talent shows and events, so I put in long hours. When I get home I like to relax, cook or have wine and movie nights (once in a while unwind dancing to Rihanna in the living room or a drink out on the stoop). Overnight guests and company on occasion are cool, but we don't bring the party home. You don't have to be a "neat freak" with your room, but would be great if you were especially mindful of shared spaces. I've been living in Sunnyside for seven years and love it's proximity to the city and restaurants, bars and things to do. It has a great neighborhood-feel with lots to do without having to get on a train.

Available August 1: One unfurnished bedroom in a three bedroom apartment that occupies first floor in a duplex home in Sunnyside, Queens!
The room: Available to sublet - short-term to start, for possible long-term. It can fit a queen-sized bed and a dresser, bookshelf or two. You will share good-sized living room, kitchen and bathroom. I have made a home here for going on three years so the shared spaces are pretty fully furnished, but if you have pieces we could talk about re-working the space to accommodate.
The neighborhood: Sunnyside is a quiet, residential area with a diverse mix of cultures, families and young professionals close to Manhattan, Long Island City and Astoria. It has a great neighborhood feel. Greenpoint Avenue and Queens Boulevard are easy walks away and have an assortment of bodegas, grocery stores, pharmacies, salons, restaurants and pubs. Our apartment is about at 12 minute walk from the 7 train (40th- Lowery Stop) and it's about a 15-20 minute train ride to Times Square – 42nd Street in Manhattan.
Us: You will be sharing the apartment with two professional women. I work at a nonprofit organization that builds communities and works with poor and minority youth. We put in long hours, so when we get home we like to relax, cook or have wine and movie nights. We have overnight guests and company on occasion but we don't bring the party home. We're looking for a roommate in their late 20s/early 30s who is responsible, considerate, respectful, mature, and will do their part to keep the apartment clean. No smoking or pets, as per lease.
Rent is $908 per month and includes utilities; internet is separate and split three ways (approx. $30 per month). To move in you need first month's rent plus security deposit of $650, a letter or employment or pay stub, copy of your ID, and a letter of reference from a former/current landlord or roommate.
If interested, please reply and tell us a bit about yourself, why you are moving and what you are looking for in an apartment. We will contact you to schedule a time to meet and show you the place.
Thank you and good luck in your search!
